Program Description

Body

Coal reigned as king in the early years of the Industrial Age. Steel mills stoked furnaces, railcars ran, and homes were heated with a resource that powered by the region. This presentation by Elizabeth Rodenz will trace the history of coal mining, from life in the coal patches, unionization, strikes, explosions, to the injuries and deaths that occurred in the coal fields of western PA.
