Program Description

Body

Are you looking to reduce your carbon footprint a little bit? In this class, you’ll learn to make twine from scrap fabric strips. The twine can be used for macrame, crochet, for shoelaces and for use instead of ribbon on packages and presents. You’ll see examples of its many uses in class. All materials will be provided for you in class, but if you have fabric scraps, you are welcome to bring them in with you to use.

Please note, we will be doing some simple manipulating with your hands. If you suffer from extreme arthritic conditions in your hands, this class may be challenging for you.

Barb Grossman, founder of Scrapwerx, a zero-waste initiative, has been organizing creative fiber, textile and art classes in the Pittsburgh region for 20 years. More recently she is focusing on creative classes and activities that use materials that were intended for a landfill. You can see her work and activities @scrapwerx
