Program Description

Body

Are you looking to reduce your carbon footprint a little bit? In this class, you’ll make your own dryer ball from fabric scraps for use in your clothes dryer to reduce drying time and lower energy costs. These dryer balls are a perfect alternative for those who might be allergic to wool (wool dryer balls) or for vegans. Please note, we will be doing some simple hand stitching. If you suffer from extreme arthritic conditions in your hands, this class may be challenging for you.

All necessary materials will be provided for you in class, but if you have fabric scraps, you are welcome to bring them in with you to use or to browse the library's fabric bank.

Barb Grossman, founder of Scrapwerx, a zero-waste initiative, has been organizing creative fiber, textile and art classes in the Pittsburgh region for 20 years. More recently she is focusing on creative classes and activities that use materials that were intended for a landfill. You can see her work and activities @scrapwerx
