When are military interventions justified? Are they ever for moral purposes, or are they always self-serving? Can they be both? In this session, Prof. D'Elia will explore the ethical and political arguments developed at different moments in American history to justify foreign interventions. He will examine their consistency over the years and their compatibility with the legitimacy of a democratic republic.
Professor Vasquez-D'Elia has a degree in International Studies from ORT University of Uruguay, and a doctorate in Political Science from the University of Pittsburgh. He is currently a professor and researcher at the Pitt Center for Latin American Studies. He has also taught at Penn State University, Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and Washington & Jefferson College. He specializes in the comparative political economy of social policy reform, democratization, and problems of democratic governance.
This is the second session of three by Professor Javier Vasquez-D'Elia. You do not need to have attended other sessions for this event. Registration is encouraged but not required!
