Program Description

Body

Join us for a presentation on Freedom House, the first emergency medical service in the United States.

Freedom House primarily served the Hill District Community, with these pioneering paramedics setting the standard for future ambulance services. Staffed entirely by black technicians, they faced racism and bureaucratic hurdles, as well as the difficult work of keeping the sick and injured alive.

This event will feature a presentation and documentary showing by John Moon, former emergency medical technician and retired Assistant Chief of Pittsburgh Emergency Medical Service.
