Body
The Monroeville Comic Book Club seeks to showcase graphic novels and comic books oriented more for adults and mature tastes, whether that’s found at DC & Marvel or in independent comix and everywhere in-between.
Our first book up for discussion will be Asterios Polyp by David Mazzuchelli. David is perhaps best known for his work in the 80s with Frank Miller, drawing the Born Again saga in Daredevil and Batman Year One. Shortly after these works, he moved onto personal projects and to teaching. He created independent works such as Rubber Blanket and City of Glass through the 90s and early 00s before unleashing Asterios Polyp suddenly on the world in 2009.
The book is a fictional graphic memoir of the life of the titular Asterios Polyp, a professor at Cornell, who has had a sudden and remarkable change thrust upon him. Much more than the words on the page, this comic presents both a compelling narrative and a masterful use of the comics medium. There could be no better comic to start off this new book club series!
We have copies of the book ready to be checked out at the front desk.
