Program Description

Body

Join us for a guided discussion with author and retired professor Beverly Harris-Schenz. In 2023, her book “Living while Black: My Experience with Everyday Racism” was published. A collection of vignettes describing events in her personal and professional life, the book spans more than 60 years. Each vignette is accompanied by discussion questions that encourage readers to think deeply about issues of race, gender, and educational expectations. The audience will have the opportunity to participate in an active conversation with the author.

As the first black faculty member in her department at 3 separate universities, Beverly is accustomed to being a trailblazer. After 38 years as a university professor and administrator (primarily at the University of Pittsburgh), in retirement Beverly has pursued a new interest in writing creative non-fiction. Three of her stories have appeared in “Voices from the Attic“ published by Carlow University.

Registration is not required, but is encouraged for this event!
